On Friday, August 15, 2014, former NHL player Steve Ludzik will host the third annual Ludzy’s Celebrity Roast at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls, Ontario. This year’s guest of honour will be Hockey Hall of Famer Phil Esposito. The lineup of guest roasters includes Boston Bruins great Gerry Cheevers, former Chicago Blackhawk veteran Dennis Hull and popular media personality Jim Ralph.
Steve’s first celebrity roast honoured legendary NHL coach Mike Keenan on October 5, 2012, at Club Italia in Niagara Falls. On May 13, 2013, Steve Ludzik donated $60,000 from his first roast and part of the proceeds from Hockey Night in St. Catharines to the Hotel Dieu Shaver, which established the Steve Ludzik Centre for Parkinson’s Rehab. The centre has a team of dedicated specialists who help to improve the quality of life for those who struggle with Parkinson’s. At least 1,400 people suffer with Parkinson’s disease in Niagara. Before the Ludzik centre was opened, treatment and therapy meant long trips to Toronto clinics.
On Friday August 9, 2013, the second roast was held at the Scotiabank Convention Centre and Bobby Hull was on the hot seat feeling the heat from several well-known personalities that included Dennis Hull, and former Leaf Jim McKenney. Nearly 800 were in attendance to support Steve ‘s rehab centre.
The second roast and a share of the money raised from Hockey Night in St. Catharines 2013, enabled Steve to raise nearly $100,000 for the Steve Ludzik Centre for Parkinson’s Rehab. Steve’s rehab centre is not supported by tax dollars; it is funded entirely by community donations raised through the roasts and the hockey games.
The third roast to be held at the Scotiabank Convention Centre promises to be another night to remember in the fight against Parkinson’s. We hope that you can join us on August 15 to continue the battle against this debilitating disease.
