OFFICIAL SPONSORS     2005-06 CLINICS WILL BE POSTED IN JUNE To officiate hockey games within Hockey Canada, you must become a certified official. To obtain certification, you must be at least 14 years of age and attend an eight (8) hour Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) clinic. Every season, this must be repeated. HCOP clinics are designed to optimize the instructional experience in an informative and enjoyable manner, taking into consideration an official's experience and current HCOP level. Within the GTHL we offer four types of clinics: New Referee Clinic Junior Referee Clinic Intermediate Referee Clinic Leadership Seminar New Referee Clinic New Referee Certification are designed for persons who have never certified as an HCOP on-ice official. Upon the successful completion of this clinic, participants will be designated HCOP Level I. They consist of a minimum of eight hours of participative academic and practical instruction. These clinics involve at least two sessions, the majority have three sessions. A 1-1.5 hour ice session is a mandatory element of this clinic. During the on-ice session, participants will be required to bring a CSA approved helmet, CSA approved visor and skates. The cost of this clinic is $70.00. This includes a HCOP Officiating Manual, a Hockey Canada Rulebook/Casebook/ Combination and any other HCOP required materials for the clinic. These clinics are also open to previously certified HCOP Level 2 officials who will reach their 18th birthday by December 31st of the year in which the clinic occurs.These clinics are for Experienced officials. Registration for Intermediate Clinics will be closed THREE WEEKS PRIOR TO THE CLINIC DATE. Upon successful completion of this clinic, participants will recertify at their current HCOP Level. They consist of a combination of eight hours of home study and participative academic instruction. The home study portion is completed via a Pre Clinic Study Guide which must be completed prior to the clinic. A written exam is included in the clinic. Most of the academic (classroom) instruction is conducted in two sessions.
