Forty of the top Minor Midget AAA prospects from around the GTHL will follow in the footsteps of the greats that came before them when the puck drops on the 9th annual GTHL Top Prospects Game, Powered by Under Armour. It was merely a few years ago when current NHL stars like Connor McDavid and Mitch Marner walked onto the ice dawning GTHL Top Prospects jerseys, playing the biggest game of their young careers. Tuesday’s game will offer fans a glimpse of what’s to come in hockey greatness.
Celebrity coaches Wendel Clark, Adam Graves, Mike Weaver, Darcy Tucker, Shayne Corson, and Wayne Primeau will each lead rosters featuring two goaltenders, six defenceman and 12 forwards. Ten different Minor Midget AAA clubs will be represented at the event, with the first place Toronto Marlboros leading all clubs with ten players. The second place Mississauga Reps follow closely behind with eight players.
“I am looking forward to getting coached and receiving feedback from the NHL players on the bench,” explained Toronto Marlboros forward McKay Hayes who will be representing Team Graves-Primeau-Tucker. “Playing alongside some of the most talented players in my age group and being able to play on the same team as guys I started novice with.”
The opportunity to reconnect with former teammates isn’t just something the players are looking forward to. Top Prospects Head Coaches and former Owen Sound Attack teammates, Richard Power (Toronto Marlboros) and Daniel Sisca (Jr. Canadiens), are relishing the chance to compete against one another from behind the bench.
“We enjoy coaching against each other and the great rivalry that exists between the Marlies and Jr. Canadiens at this age group over the past six years,” said Power who was quick to praise Sisca for providing guidance during their time in the OHL. “We have both enjoyed watching these boys develop over the years and look forward to seeing what awaits them in the coming years.”
