GTHL mourns the passing of Tyler Cragg

The GTHL joins the family and friends of Tyler Cragg to mourn the passing of a young man who dedicated himself to our League and the Toronto Jr. Canadiens for many years. Included below are messages from the Cragg family and Jr. Canadiens president Peter Friedmann:

Message from the Cragg family:

Yesterday morning at 5:30 am our beloved Tyler passed away surrounded by his family. He was engulfed in love as we thanked him for all the ways he was such an incredible son, brother, uncle, and mentor to so many. We encouraged him to go to heaven to be with Jesus, where we believe he has so many more kids to coach. We are heartbroken but comforted knowing that his suffering is over after an almost 3-year battle with GBM, which he bore so well. What an amazing man.

Tyler’s funeral will be held at the Church of the Transfiguration in Orleans, Massachusetts on Saturday, December 12th at 11am. More details to come including his wake on Friday.

We have set up a group to celebrate Tyler’s life for anyone who would like to post stories or pictures — Celebrating the Life of Tyler Cragg.

Message from Mr. Friedmann:

Tyler was an exceptional person who touched many people both on and off ice.  His intellectual, wisdom, humor and all around personality will be missed greatly.  His contribution to the Junior Canadiens organization, his coaching of some of best GTHL teams and his contribution to the Canadian Ice Academy will be sadly missed.  Tyler helped develop many great hockey players who played in the GTHL and currently are some of the top NHL players. Also while coaching the Junior A Canadiens in OJHL many players followed the NCAA route and then professional career.

The Junior Canadiens players for the rest of the season will be wearing a patch with TC initials.  Also the Junior Canadiens Cup, hockey tournament will be also recognized as Tyler Cragg Memorial Tournament.  We will be establishing a scholarship fund in Tyler’s name to promote further the development of young hockey players.  The sport Tyler loved dearly and was very passionate about.
