Around the G: Dec. 15-17

Winning streaks, back-to-backs, and divisions that have been flipped upside down since last season – catch up on the latest from around the G.

Minor Atom AA

It would be the third place North Toronto (18-2-3) squad who would put a halt to the first place North York Knights (20-1-2) seven game winning streak after a 2-2 draw on Sunday. The Knights only loss of the season came at the hands of the second place Leaside Flames, who currently sit one point behind the Knights. The Flames extended their winning streak to seven over the weekend after a 6-4 victory over Forest Hill (16-5-3).

In the West, the Vaughan Rangers (19-1-3) continued tearing up the division, notching a win over the Streetsville Tigers (15-3-3) on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Mississauga Jets (17-3-3) continued their winning ways with a 5-1 win over the West Mall Lightning (6-13-4). The third place Jets have not lost a game since mid-November and currently sit only four points back of first.

Other finals from Minor Atom AA weekend action:

West – Vaughan Panthers 1, Humber Valley Sharks 2
West – Toronto Eagles 3, Duffield Devils 1

East – West Hill Golden Hawks 0, North York Knights 4
East – Markham Islanders 2, Hillcrest Canadiens 5

Minor Peewee A

Following an early exit from the 2016-17 Scotiabank GTHL Playoffs, the first place Don Mills Mustangs (21-2-1) have been on a roll, losing only two games this season, both of which were at the hands of the second and third place teams. The Mustangs will need to keep up the pace if they want to stay ahead of the second place Willowdale Blackhawks (19-3-2). The Blackhawks won their fourth straight on Friday after a 4-3 victory over the Goulding Park Rangers (16-4-5).

History is repeating itself in the West to an extent. While the Vaughan Rangers (16-3-1) are once leading the division, the former last place Toronto Eagles (14-4-3) have shot up the standings, sitting only two points behind first. The Eagles defeated the third place Avalanche (12-3-6) 3-0 on Sunday.

Other finals from Minor Peewee A weekend action:

West – Greater Toronto Capitals 1, West Mall Lightning 4
West – Humberview Huskies 4, Toronto Wolverines 4

East – East Enders Ticats 4, Markham Islanders 3

Minor Midget AAA

The Toronto Marlboros (24-1-1) continued their unstoppable season after winning back-to-back games over the weekend. The Marlboros last and only loss came at the hands of the third place Don Mills Flyers (17-7-2). Like the Marlboros, the Flyers also won back-to-back games on the weekend, defeating both the Toronto Young Nationals (6-19-1) and Markham Majors (5-19-2). Teams should keep an eye on the second place Mississauga Reps (17-3-7) who have now won four straight.

Mississauga Senators 5, Markham Majors 3
