Around the G: Nov. 4-6

Every goal, save, and shot is now intensified as the race to the Kraft Cup approaches the halfway point. See which teams remain in the running for the top prize.

Minor Atom A

With first place Forest Hill (10-1-1) not scheduled over the weekend, the second place Leaside Flames (9-2-2) were able to inch closer that much closer to the top spot after winning two straight. The Flames, however, will have to keep up their pace if they want to remain in their current position. The third place East Enders Ticats (8-2-3) sit only one point behind the Flames after a 5-1 victory over the Scarborough Ice Raiders.

Standings in the West remain wide open with the Vaughan Rangers (9-1-0) sitting comfortably in the top spot with a game in hand. The second place Toronto Royals (8-3-0) are quickly creeping up the standings after four straight wins, including a 6-2 victory over the Greater Toronto Capitals over the weekend.

Other finals from Minor Atom A weekend action:

East – Willowdale Blackhawks 2, Ted Reeve Thunder 2
East – North York Knights 10, West Hill Golden Hawks 1

West – Toronto Eagles 12, Humber Valley Sharks 0

Atom AA

There’s lots of nail biting in the West as the Vaughan Panthers (9-1-2) and the Vaughan Rangers (10-2-0) are now both tied for first after 12 games apiece. Both teams saw victories over the weekend, allowing the standings to remain tight. Both teams should be keeping an eye on the third place Streetsville Tigers (9-1-0) who are now only two points back with two games in hand. The Tigers extended their winning streak to seven over the weekend after a 4-0 victory over the Toronto Royals.

In the East, North Toronto (10-1-1) remain in first with a strong three-point lead and a game in hand over the second place North York Knights (9-4-0). The Knights, however, could become problematic for North Toronto after winning two back-to-back over the weekend and grabbing a solid four points.

Other finals from Atom AA weekend action:

East – York Mills 3, Toronto Shamrocks 1
East – Scarborough Young Bruins 3, Toronto Shamrocks 6

West – Avalanche 1, Mississauga Terriers 10
West – Duffield Devils 3, Humberview Huskies 1

Minor Midget AA

The first place Toronto Aces (11-0-2) extended their winning streak to six after defeating North Toronto 4-1. With two games in hand and three points back of first, the North York Knights (10-0-1) are in the ideal position to take the top spot. It doesn’t hurt that the team is currently in the midst of a seven-game winning streak.

In the West, the Mississauga Jets (12-0-0) remain undefeated on the season after an 8-1 victory over the West Mall Lightning. Four points back of first, the Mississauga North Stars (10-1-0) extended their winning streak to seven after a win over the Mississauga Terriers. Meanwhile, the Streetsville Tigers (7-4-3) managed to snap a two-game losing skid with a 2-0 win over the Humber Valley Sharks.

Other finals from Minor Midget AA weekend action:

West – Vaughan Panthers 4, Toronto Royals 1
West – West Mall Lightning 0, Mississauga Braves 4

Congratulations to the West Toronto Renegades Minor Bantam ‘A” team for winning the Motown Cup this past weekend in Detroit.  This is the Renegades first official Club championship.

“The players did a great job representing their club, community and families committing to a complete team work-like attitude,” said Renegades General Manager, Vince Agostino.  “Strong goaltending,  claustrophobic defence and assertive forechecking were the key elements to the team’s success. ”
